Classical Torso

Equilibrium
Bronze £27,500

The male and female human forms hinted at here are joined together like a balancing act.

Equilibrium

"Marzia has a unique ability to be uncompromised by her instinctive sensuality; her sense of line, of smooth tactility, of undulation and of firm readiness never softens or lessens the essential strength either of her materials or of her deep-rooted inner power. There is nothing massive about the work, but its force is immense". Simon Callow

Equilibrium

Born in Pisa, Mazia Colonna was accepted into art school at the age of twelve.

This was followed by the Academia di Belle Arti in Florence, and then a move to England with her husband in 1970. Work initiallly concentrated on drawing and sculpture.

Marzia Colonna's first solo exhibition in London was held at the Campbell and Franks Gallery in 1979. Subsequently her work developed into an exploration of the body through colour and collage. Study of the human form continued with patterns merging as the body becomes landscape.

Since 1985 Marzia Colonna has lived and worked in West Dorset. Her work is in many collecions, both in Europe, the United States and Australasia. A major sculpture was purchased in 2001 by the Jerwood foundation.
