The Shop @ Newby Hall
In a major project for 2009, Newby Hall and Daniel Hornsey of Hornseys' in Ripon
are to collaborate in the re-organisation of 'The Shop @ Newby Hall'. This new
development has far-reaching aims and will transform the present shop premises
into a space dedicated to modern British art, design and craftsmenship.
A firm emphasis will be placed on quality and value across all price ranges.
The Shop will focus on interactive books and other items for children and will
also hold a fine range of artist and craftsment-designed jewellery, ceramics,
cards, books, furniture, original prints, lighting and textiles for all ages and
interests.
Included will be books in the 'Rosie Flo' series, greetings cards by Angie Lewin,
Robert Taverner and Mark Herald, original screen-printed wrapping papers from
the Penfold Press in York, jewellery by Sara Withers, Sarah Packington and Gail
Klevan, textiles and bags by Jane Withers and Claire Austin, lighting and lamps
by Hannah Nunn, original prints by Jonny Hannah and Ed Kluz and ceramics by Michelle
Freemantle, John Kershaw abd Chiu-i Wu.
Such an approach will place Newby at the forfront of the growing retail trend
towards enviomentally sustainable and British-manufactured arts and crafts as
well as gifts. Products will be locally sourced wherever possible, but work by
the best of modern British designers will also be on show. Events will be held
at 'The Shop' throughout the Summer, stock will be constantly changing and in
time this dynamic space will become a key attraction within the Newby Hall estate
as a whole.
