School Visits:
Newby presents endless opportunities for an inspirational educational visit. The ancient sculptures in the Statue Gallery and the interactive Zimbabwean Sculpture Workshops (from June) give wonderful scope for discovering the arts.
The woodland walk and gardens provide a wealth of material, while the house itself is a very special environment in which to explore form, colour, design and mathematical proportion as well as architecture and social history. During June, July and August, Matombo Zimbabwean Sculpture workshops are available free of charge for all ages – please ask.
Newby’s wonderful adventure playground is a fantastic place to let off steam with an amazing variety of experiences including the miniature railway. There is a large picnic area close to the coach park for lunch and if it is wet, we will do our best to provide undercover space.
We offer good facilities and accessibility for disabled visitors, with both motorised & manual wheelchairs available on FREE loan. You are advised to book them in advance.

Disabled Visitors:
Car Parking
There are several disabled spaces allocated in the main visitor car park, adjacent to the Ticket Office and Blue Badge holders will be directed to this area. The car park surface is 10mm gravel and is generally suitable for pushchairs, rollators and wheelchairs. Pre booked Newby wheelchairs and scooters can be brought to your car on request. To book one, please call 01423 322583 opt 1 and leave a message with the intended date of your visit, we will call you back to confirm availability. The scooters are unavailable during the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show period. To hire a scooter suitable for the show please call 01274 297777.
Paths
Most of the paths within the gardens are shallow pea gravel, though Breedon (compacted) gravel has now been laid from the Ticket Office to the Railway Shop. Both surfaces are easily negotiated by pushchairs, wheelchairs, rollators and walking sticks. A wheelchair map, available in the Ticket Office highlights the steps in the gardens and indicates alternative routes. This map is also loaned with each Newby wheelchair/scooter. There are a large number of benches throughout most areas of the gardens.
Paths in the Woodland Walk are rough gravel or grassy woodland tracks. While they are generally flat and broad, they may become littered with sticks or muddy from time to time. An accessible route is marked, which avoids a steep and uneven flight of steps.
Toilets
There are disabled facilities in the Car park toilets and the Grantham Room
Max Cards
We are a happy to admit a free child to the gardens with a Max Card. One card per party only please.

There is a small designated dog exercise area (highlighted in pink) next to the picnic area, however we strongly advise that you do not bring your pet on hot days. We cannot guarantee parking in shaded areas.
