Apple Day and the Apple Throwing Championships!

Apple Throwing Championships 2018

Apple Throwing Championships 2018

Sunday 4th October is Apple Day at Newby Hall, which due to Covid, will be a pared back event with measures taken to ensure everyone’s safety.

Central to Apple Day is the hotly contested Apple Throwing Championships where whoever throws an Apple the furthest over the River Ure wins the prestigious title and trophy!!! There will also be apple pressing demonstrations, a display of the many apple varieties grown in our orchards and advice on all things fruity from our expert friends at the Northern Fruit Group.

Apple Throwing Championships 1pm-3pm.  Anyone who gets their apples to the other side of the River Ure will be invited back for the Grand Final!

Grand Final 3pm.

To ensure everyone’s safety we will:

  • hold all activities outdoors – but under cover where possible
  • allow one group (of up to 6) at a time to take part in the activities
  • have one-way systems in place for all activities
  • provide extra hand sanitising points
  • ask all members of staff to wear masks when interacting with visitors
  • remind visitors to stay in their groups and respect others’ space
