Key initiatives include:

• Renewable Energy – The House and Gardens are powered primarily by three on-site solar farms and a hydroelectric generation scheme on the River Ure, significantly reducing our reliance on the National Grid. At certain times, the estate is able to operate at net zero electricity usage.
• Hydroelectric Power – By harnessing the natural flow of the River Ure, we generate clean, renewable electricity while making use of an existing natural resource.
• Electric Vehicle Charging – We provide electric vehicle charging points for businesses based at our Stables Business Park, supporting the transition to lower-carbon transport.
• Waste Management – Visitor waste is carefully segregated and recycled wherever possible, helping to minimise the amount sent to landfill.
• Sustainable Gardening – Green waste from the gardens is composted on-site and reused throughout the estate, reducing waste while improving soil health naturally.
• Water Management – Water used throughout the gardens is sourced directly from the River Ure, reducing demand on mains water supplies and ensuring the sustainable management of our horticultural operations.
