Ryedale Festival – The Salt Road – At Christ the Consoler

Friday 24th July 3pm – Ryedale Festival – The Salt Road
The ancient Salt Road between Lüneburg and Lübeck was both a vital trading route for ‘white gold’ and the path Bach took on his 400-mile pilgrimage to hear Buxtehude, a composer he revered. Horatio Clare shares reflections on walking in his footsteps, alongside music by Bach, Buxtehude and others, including a world premiere by Silas Wollston, brought to life by the distinctive colours of cornetto, sackbut, strings and organ.
‘cornettist Glenton, keyboardist Silas Wollston and violinist Bojan Cicic pull material out of nowhere, like magicians … a fascinating journey’ BBC Music Magazine
